Dear Friends,
I have known Mike Lancto since 1981, when we both began Bible College in
Jacksonville, Florida. Mike was a very aggressive student; graduating
early and with honors. I well remember him sharing with the men in the
dorm how he believed God was leading him to work with the American
military in Germany, which he ultimately did, leaving the comforts of
the US in 1986.
Rheinland Baptist Church always had a ministry to single soldiers and
airmen but Mike was able to give it significant exposure by finding a
convenient location in downtown Landstuhl. This was in many ways the
official beginning of the Rheinland Servicemen’s Center. With the new
location came new opportunities for outreach to the military and German
communities.
Without exception, the crown jewel of Mike’s ministry in Germany lies
with Andrew Wilson. Andrew was already saved when he came to Germany as
a young Airman but it was under Mike Lancto’s ministry where Andrew grew
in the Lord and acquired a burden to reach the German people. Andrew and
Ramona Wilson have been in Germany over 10 years, faithfully serving the
Lord in Landstuhl where Andrew started the Freie Baptisten Geminde.
Although the leadership for the Rheinland Singles’s Ministry has changed
several times over the last 20 years and even the location changed 10
years ago, the ministry is still alive and going forward. No one can
deny that this ministry has had a significant influence on many lives
since its humble beginning in Landstuhl. Thank you Mike for your
pioneering spirit! We trust there will be much future fruit abounding
toward your account due to your leadership and vision for this ministry.
